Description: Very fine Ted Williams "Gardner Day" presentational Heywood Wakefield painted chair with baseball dÄcor c.1946. Sheraton style side chair retaining its original rush seat as presented to Ted Williams on the occasion of "Gardner Day" on August 25, 1946. Center back slat displays a desirable painted crossed bat and ball scene along with gilt lettering, "Presented to Ted Williams Red Sox Gardner Day August 25, 1946". Top crest rail retains its original manufacture emblem from noted furniture company Heywood Wakefield. The chair presents in outstanding original condition retaining its original surface and finish. Given to Ted during an on field celebration at Fenway Park in which he posed seated in a huge oversized chair. The lot is accompanied by an incredible original photograph picturing Williams seated in the oversized chair with the offered example positioned in front on the field: EX
