Description: Superb Jim Thorpe autographed photograph inscribed to Ted Williams c.1952. Framed 10"x13" studio posed image of Jim Thorpe and Ted Williams taken from a profile vantage. Sepia tone photo in a matte finish, retains very fine original tonality and contrast with some light horizontal surface wrinkling to the center area, and a few small creases at the upper right corner. Signed at the left margin in bold aqua blue ink, "To Ted Williams The greatest baseball player of all time from the Old Injun Jim Thorpe 1952." Inscription and signature remain remarkably bold, rating 9/10 out of 10. Thorpe is regarded by many as the greatest all around athlete in the history of the sport, placing additional significance on the nature of the inscription, as written to Ted Williams. Thorpe played Major League baseball for the New York Giants during the 1910-1920 era and played with/against the likes of Christy Mathewson, Joe Jackson, and Ty Cobb. Thorpe remained a sports icon through the remainder of his life, and witnessed the play of individuals such as Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, and Jimmie Foxx. With note to the Jim Thorpe inscription of praise to Ted Williams, it must be met with the highest possible regard, and in turn denotes the offered image as one of the finest of its type to have entered the collecting marketplace.
