Description: Ted Williams Pre War Griffith & Howe New York Custom Springfield 1903 Bolt Action Rifle in Caliber 30 Govt. 06. Beginning in the 1920s, Griffin & Howe of New York City began making superb custom rifles using the venerable United States Government Springfield model 1903 action as the basis for this world class sporting rifle. This pre-war classic is all Griffin & Howe. It too features the Model 1903 action, one of the finest actions ever developed. This rifle is chambered for the 30 Govt. 06 with a 23" barrel stamped Griffin & Howe New York. The wood is typical straight grained American walnut with the traditional G&H black horn forend tip. It has fine hand checkering with a roll over cheek piece for right handed shooter. The stock sports a newer ventilated rubber recoiled pad. Wood remains in almost new condition with just a couple of minor bumps. The metal remains at about 95% original finish with some high edge wear and a couple of hunting scrapes. The rear sight is a Lyman model 48 which is the sight most typically used by them. The bore has strong lands/grooves but the throat shows some wear. Basically, this is a hand built and hand honed basic no frills hunting rifle. The Griffin & Howe custom serial number is 1271: EX
