Lot Number: 320

Description: Fine Ted Williams 1955 Boston Red Sox professional model road jersey. Stunning exemplar dating to the prime of Williams' Hall of Fame career. Grey flannel jersey displays its original "Boston" team name across the front and #9 on the reverse. Tim McAuliffe tagging remains affixed to the tail front along with "55 46 2ins. 9" chain stitching in reference to the year, size, and number. Dry clean tag appears inside the tail front. The jersey clearly exhibits evident use including appropriate surface wear and a few areas of minor staining. The left sleeve appears to have faint vestiges of shadowing from the Harry Agganis memorial armband that would have been on the jersey for a short period of time. The lot also includes a pair of matching 1956 Boston Red Sox road pants as issued to Johnny Schmitz #21. Pants also have Tim McAuliffe tagging inside the waist with chain stitched year, number, and sizing as related to Schmitz. Pair of original red, white, and blue striped Boston socks are also included with the lot and have no tagging or identifying markings. The uniform was originally donated to a charity auction at Etrusco Association in Scituate, Massachusetts. The uniform was purchased for $50.00 by a local philanthropist who was also a large contributor to the Jimmy Fund in Boston. At the time of purchase, it was given to a volunteer at the auction as a gift, where it has remained until entering the hobby. Ted Williams game jerseys of this caliber with unimpeachable provenance and authenticity are exceedingly rare. Significant Hall of Famer uniform from a period primary source remaining in outstanding original condition. Includes LOAs from MEARS Authentication (Graded A-9, point deduction for the missing armband only) and Hunt Auctions along with a letter of provenance from the original recipient: EX-EX/MT
