Lot Number: 314

Description: Historic September 28, 1960 Ted Williams Final Game program, ticket stub, and related ephemera. With one swing of the bat in a game played at Fenway Park against the Baltimore Orioles, Ted Williams cemented his place in baseball history with a home run into the right center field bleachers. Urged to retire in 1959 Williams would not go away quietly and returned in 1960 at the age of 42 only to have a very fine season which was an appropriate end to his storied career. Typical of Williams' flare for the dramatic in his final at bat of his career, he hammered a 1-1 pitch into the stands and rode off into the history books. The crowd that day was notably sparse and accordingly original programs and ticket stubs from that game are very rare and highly sought after. Offered is an original collection of materials from that game as assembled by the original attendee that day at Fenway Park. Includes Red Sox souvenir program from the game which has been scored in ink including the Williams home run. Several neatly penned period notations are also found on the scoring page including, "Ted Williams last game at Fenway Park". Front cover has "Ted's Last Fenway Game" written in red pencil at the top margin. General condition of the program is very clean overall: EX-EX/MT; Ticket stub remains very clean retaining its original perforated rain check stub. Two tiny staple holes are present: EX; (4) original color photographs taken that day including unique candid poses of Ted in the batting circle awaiting his at bat. 4"x6" each: EX-MT; 1960 Red Sox yearbook: EX; and a copy of the 9/29/1960 Boston Globe with headlines of Williams home run. Very rare ensemble with uncommon direct provenance to the original recipient.
