Description: 1917 World Series program (at New York). With World War I raging overseas the 1917 World Series provided a much needed distraction for the American public at large. The Chicago White Sox beat the New York Giants (4) games to (2) in what would be team owner Charles Comiskey's last moment of glory; (2) years later his players would rock the baseball world, throwing the 1919 World Series with (8) being banished from the game for life. Original program issued for game played at the Polo Grounds/Brush Stadium, neatly scored in pencil for Game (3) which was played on October 10. The program currently exhibits just a hint of cover discoloration with light wear visible on corners/edges. Small tear at right edge on front and (2) back corners have been expertly restored, as has the bound edge which has replaced staples. In addition to being scored, the center pages have numerous game related notations; game attendance and score also written on cover. One of the most visually pleasing examples we have handled: EX/MT with note to restoration
