Description:Very rare “Ruth Type” baseball bat by Bean Bros. c.1910s. Early 34” long wooden bat has a bold and well pronounced “Bean Bros” centerbrand and “Ruth Model” is block lettered in the barrel end. The retailer was based in Freeport, Maine and known to have marketed bats which were impressed with the names of Boston Red Sox players. They seldom surface and this may in fact be the only “Ruth Model” which has been offered at auction. The bat is uncracked and displays general use/ wear including nicks/chips to the hitting surface, a touch of grain swelling, and there is a small chip missing from the barrel end. An interesting side note - Bean Bros. was managed by Leon Leonwood Bean around this time and he would go to found the well known retailer L.L. Bean shortly thereafter. A notable rarity with relation to Babe Ruth during his earliest days in professional baseball: EX
