Description:1872 "Match Game, Prospect Park" silver trophy ball. Presentational ball done in metal is engraved, "Match Game, Prospect Park B.B. Grounds, July 22nd 1872." Noted below are the names and addresses of two prominent New York City retailers, Bawo & Dotter and C. F. A. Hinrichs. Each had fielded a team for the event and Bawo & Dotter evidently came away the victor with the score (17 to 9) inscribed along the bottom. Simulated stitching, in the manner of a baseball, also appears throughout the surface. A rare early relic as relates to baseball during this formative period when the game at large was spreading and matches between amateur teams were a common form of recreation. Light tarnish and surface wear to the silverplate and there are dents/indentations throughout: VG
