Lot 488

Description: Exceedingly rare and highly desirable Craig Wood (and others) autographed golf ball (toughest Masters winner) (Overall EX) Lightly soiled golf ball with "2 Walter Hagen 288" and "For Tournament Play" markings bears approx. (5) vintage fountain pen signatures with the most notable being Craig Wood (7-8 out of 10). Wood was one on the most prominent golfers of the 1930s and 40s having won a total of (21) PGA Tour Tournaments and played on (3) Ryder Cup teams. His most noted year came in 1941 when he won both the U.S. Open and then The Masters. Wood passed away in 1968 and is considered the toughest of all Masters winners, the most widely collected genre within the golf field. Other signatures which can be identified include Lawson Little (6/7) and Billy Burke (5/6). Other signatures/handwriting can not be deciphered. Ball itself displays evident usage wear with a touch of very minor surface loss. Consigned by the daughter of an Augusta, GA native who found it within family possessions and believes it was obtained by her father c.1939. Exceptionally rare and the only Wood signed golf ball we are aware of: Overall EX ($1,000-$2,000)
