Lot 71

Description: Mic Mac hockey stick, c. early 1900s (EX). Very nice Indian-made stick measures 48" from tip of blade to end of the handle, with imprinted "Mic Mac" lettering on the blade, sandwiched between two star symbols on either side. Mic-Mac sticks were originally made by the Mi'kmaq people of Nova Scotia, credited with making the earliest known hockey sticks in the mid 1800s. The offered model, made of yellow birch and marketed by the Starr Manufacturing Company, is signficantly later as evidenced by early 1900s catalog ads. Stick has a mild use and age-related wear, including some dings and scratches, but retains outstanding overall eye appeal: EX. ($500-$1,000)
