Historical autograph book is hand-dated "winter of 1870" on first page, and features the signatures of more than 70 members of the then-United States Congress who were charged with governing during the Reconstruction era following the U.S. Civil War. Notable signers include Charles Sumner, Hiram Revels (first African American to serve in Congress), William Pitt Kellogg, Joseph Carter Abbott, Carl Schurz, John Potter Stockton, James Harlan, John Sherman, Simon Cameron, Hannibal Hamlin, Lyman Trumbull, Roscoe Conkling, Richard Yates and many others. Signatures rate 7/8 out of 10 overall, and 5 1/2"x4" brown leather autograph book has mostly age-related wear, with some light toning/staining on some interior pages: EX.
