Description: Group of c. 1920s memorabilia attributed to Phillies minor leaguer Walter Wheat, including cabinet photo (GD-EX). Interesting assortment of vintage items related to Shenandoah, Pa. native Walter Wheat, a semi-pro player in the Phillies organization in the 1920s. Highlights include a pair of well-worn cleats; early 1920s 8"x10" cabinet photo of the Shenandoah semi-pro team; 1920s real photo postcard showing him Shenandoah team catcher's gear; Philadelphia National League Club letterhead signed by business manager Gerald Paul Nugent regarding reporting to spring training in 1928; handwritten letter on Philadelphia National League Club letterhead from scout Patsy O'Rourke and numerous letters and correspondence to and from his wife and other parties, including Draper-Maynard letter on official letterhead and other items.
