Description: 1952 Richie Ashburn Philadelphia Phillies contract (unsigned) with related handwritten note and signed return receipt card (EX-NM) Original players' contract which was sent to Richie Ashburn by the Phillies and is signed by Bob Carpenter on behalf of the team. Tastefully framed to 23"x23.25" (at what appears to be great expense) with glass on both sides to allow for viewing of both front and back of the contract. Matted below is the original return receipt card with which it was sent (dated Jan. 19, 1952) which is signed "Richie Ashburn" (wear includes creases, staple holes, and a small upper corner tear/chip). Beside this is a handwritten note which reads "Dear Bob - Am returning the contract unsigned. I hope we can get together a few minutes when I get back there next week cause your terms just don't seem right to me. Sincerely, Rich A." Handwriting and signature rate 8/9 out of 10, paper has toned slightly. The contract offered Ashburn the salary of $18,500 and his baseball-reference page shows that he landed up getting paid $20,000 for the season: EX-NM ($750-$1,250)Final Bid: $451.00
