Description: Unique 1928 Grover Hartley (d.1964) stat inscribed single signed baseball - traded for (5) fried chickens on his 40th birthday! (VG-EX) Red and blue stitched E.S. Barnard Official American League baseball has been signed across the sweetspot "Compliments of Grover Hartley, Cleveland Indians 1928." On the side panels he has handwritten a list of team played for and the years he was with the particular club. He has also written his date of birth and the date on which he signed "Jule 2, 1928...Forty years of old age today." On another panel is written, "Five Friend Chickens and Five Plates." According to a SABR article which can be found online, Hartley signed and inscribed this baseball and then traded it to a restaurant owner for the aforementioned chickens on his birthday. ($400-$600)
