Lot 1054

Description: 1989 All-Star Game "Skills Competition" Championship Trophy (VG/EX). Interesting baseball oddity that was created for the 1989 All-Star game "Skills Competion," an often forgotten event at Anaheim Stadium that tested big leaguers' skills in throwing accuracy, relays and home runs. The contest, won by the National League 4-0, curiously was never held again after Reds' superstar Barry Larkin blew out his elbow making a throw. Silver bowl trophy, which bears the engraving "All-Star Skills Competition Championship Trophy" does not appear to have ever been presented. It has been consigned directly from a former MLB employee. Bowl measures 13"x6.5" on top of a 9"x9"x5" wooden base with a black plate that reads "1989 -". Silver is heavily tarnished, but can likely be cleaned up if desired: VG/EX.
