Description: 1890 "Sporting Times" bound volume (January through November) - exceedingly rare and important early weekly featuring numerous woodcuts (Overall EX) Exceptionally rare periodical is bound in hard covers (21"x15.5") with January through November cover date issues containing a wealth of information and a number of outstanding woodcut illustrations. The subjects of these include Harry Wright, Mickey Welch, A.J. Reach, Sam Thompson, the Brooklyn Club, President Von Der Ahe, A.G. Spalding, Cap Anson, Charlie Bennett, and others. A handful of issues have no woodcut and instead carry advertising for the series of rare supplements which were issued with the paper and are among the most sought after from the period. While all pages have not been individually examined those viewed have varying degrees of light general toning and handling wear which largely effects the corners and edges. Given the fragile nature of material of this type there are surely some pages which have tears and some larger chips.
