Description:Babe Ruth autographed 1934 testimonial certificate related to final game as a Yankee (Certificate VG, Sig. EX/MT-NM) Uncommon "Babe Ruth Testimonial" souvenir certificate as was inserted into scorecards purchased in Griffith Stadium during the Yankees vs. Senators game played September 30, 1934. It was to be Ruth's final appearance as a player and he was honored with a pre-game ceremony and presentational scroll signed by the fans of Washington. At bottom was the original testimonial signed by Franklin D. Roosevelt off which the souvenir copies were made. Signed at upper left, "To Doc Painter, Sincerely Babe Ruth" in fountain pen rating 8 out of 10. Given Painter's close affiliation with the Yankees and the likelihood that he was traveling with the team that day it remains highly probably that this was indeed signed by Ruth while in uniform for the last time. Moderate wear throughout inclusive of wrinkling, trimming at edges, and small tears at top/bottom of centerfold. Discoloration at edges resulting from prior mounting. One of a very few copies of this certificate we have handled and most certainly the only signed copy we know to exist. Framed for display to 26.5"x46.5" overall with a pair of large format photographs. Includes auction LOA from JSA: Certificate VG, Sig. EX/MT-NM ($4,000-$6,000)
