The photo is well known for the little girl standing in the top row who was Joe Wood's six year old sister Zoe. Photo has an interesting history as it is laid down on vintage photo paper with a photo of Wood's wife on the reverse. The photo of Mrs. Wood was displayed in the family home for years and recently was taken out of its' frame to reveal the offered treasure. Very fine pair of 19th century professional baseball photographers that were recently discovered in a prvate estate. The first image pictures a game in progress between Chicago and Detroit at Detroit on June 19, 1886. Image has a wonderful period flavor with horse drawn carriages in the outfield and players visible on field. Back is stamped, "The Record Breaking Game Detroit vs. Chicago at Detroit, June 19, 1886" by C.W. Earle photographer. Back also has some period notations regarding Detroit player Harding Richardson whose family we believe these photos originated from.
