Lot Number: 684

Description: Superb Bustin Babe's and Larrupin Lou's autographed Barnstorming photograph. Matte finish promotional photograph of Ruth and Gehrig in full uniform signed under each player's fasc. autograph. Ruth is notably bold and grades a 9/10 out of 10, Gehrig is equally clean although not as bold given his penmanship style and grades 8/9 out of 10. "Oct. 25-28 at Dayton, Ohio" written in period ink at bottom rt. denoting the date on which the original recipient had the photo signed. Ruth and Gehrig toured extensively during the late 1920's with souvenirs from their Tours ranking among the most desired with relation to Ruth and Gehrig from the era. The offered image was obtained by Louis "Bill" Koogler who with his father attended a barnstorming game in 1928 and went onto the field after the game to obtain the players autographs. The photo then happily resided in the young Koogler's 'sock drawer' for the next 30 years even as he went on to serve in the U.S. Army only bringing the photo out to show family and friends on occasion. Mr. Koogler had the photo in his posession for 60 years until his death when it was inherited by his family and remained as such for another 12 years. The rarity of authentic Ruth and Gehrig signed photographs is vastly understated in comparison to balls, paper items , and other mediums. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the family and a letter of authenticity from Hunt Auctions.8"x10" archivally matted and framed, the finest Ruth and Gehrig signed photo that we have offered to date: NM
