Description: 1939 All-Star game autographed baseball. Yankee Stadium hosted its' first All-Star game on July 11, 1939. Lou Gehrig, the Yankees' stricken hero, was named an honorary member of the AL team in tribute to his legendary career. It would be his last All-Star game. This is a superb 1939 All-Star game auto. baseball signed by members of the NL and victorius AL squads. Slightly off white Harridge AL ball signed by (18) players incl. Gehrig, Foxx, DiMaggio, Hartnett, Dickey, Greenberg, Gordon, Arnovich, Derringer, Jurges, Lee, Crosetti, McCormick, Hack, Bridges, Ruffing, and Hemsley.This ball is also signed by Walter Johnson who was in attendance (it was not unusual for Johnson to sign team balls at All-Star games in the 1930's even though he was not in unfiorm, owing to his stature). Signatures range from 8-10 out 10 with the Gehrig rating a solid 9.5. Team balls from the 1939 All-Star game are extraordinarily rare and practically non existent with Gehrig's signature: NM
