Description: 1911 All-Star team presentation medallion.Presented to Smoky Joe Wood for participating in 1911 exhibition series against the Philadelphia Athletics to prepare them for the 1911 World Series. The games were played just before the regular season and boasted an impressive lineup for the All-Star team incl. Walter Johnson, Ty Cobb, and Wood. Offered medallion is 14K gold with inlaid blue enamelwork surrounding an inset diamond. Back is engraved, “To Jospeh Wood of the All-Star American team of 1911-From the American Baseball Club of Philadelphia-The Athletics”. Retains its’ orig. blue leather strap with lapel clasp. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Robert Wood: NM
