Lot Number: 963

Description: Scarce 1892 John L. Sullivan and James Corbett advertising trade cards. Pair of thin stock cardboard advertising cards measuring 4 1/2"x7" were issued by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. Trade cards picture both fighters in black and white with red printed titling in the margins. The identical backs advertise a special promotional train ride to New Orleans with ticket sales by the railroad itself for three fights culminating with the historic September 7, 1892 Heavyweight Championship fight between Sullivan and Corbett. Both pieces exhibit some typical light to moderate soiling to a few areas along with some similar creasing while retaining a fine general appearance. The offered pair of trade cards are the first of their type that we have encountered with likely limited original production and unlikely survival numbers. Includes letter of provenance from the Boyle family: VG
