Description: Lot of (4) baseball related letters. Grouping of four original letters as sent to Eddie Boyle during the late 19th century to include: John McCloskey handwritten letter to Boyle. McCloskey was the manager of the 1896 Louisville baseball team. Separated at the fold lines with tape repair, signed boldly by McCloskey in ink: Letter: PR, Signature: EX-MT; 1897 typewritten letter to Boyle from N.Ashley Lloyd inviting Boyle to play for the Cincinnati team under manager Buck Ewing. Unsigned, includes original envelope: VG-EX; 1894 handwritten letter from J.Rauer as sent to Boyle with baseball content. Includes original envelope: Letter: VG-EX, Signature: EX; and 1895 handwritten letter as sent to Boyle from W.M. Rankin of the New York Clipper requesting his image for use in the newspaper. Includes its original envelope: Letter: VG, Signature: EX. Includes letter of provenance from the Boyle family.
