Description: Rare ticket stub for the first game at Forbes Field on June 30th, 1909. Seldom seen stub from the first game at Forbes played between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs on June 30, 1909. The stub has multiple creases, surface paper loss, and has been covered by clear tape. A copy of a newspaper article from 1949 recalls the ticket's provenance, having been kept in the wallet of its original bearer decades after his attendance at the game. Opening day at Forbes in 1909 was a day of immense celebration in Pittsburgh. Various Major League officials, team owners, and other dignitaries were present including Pittsburgh Mayor William A. Magee who threw out the stadium's ceremonial fist pitch. The first game was attended by a standing-room only crowd of 30,388 with the Chicago Cubs winning by a score of 3–2.
