Lot Number: 344

Description: Rare 1969 Tony Conigliaro professional model baseball bat. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat measures 36" long and weighs 33.5oz. The bat shows heavy use incl. pine tar residue, ball marks, rack marks, stitching impressions, and a handle crack. Model #S180 is stamped on the knob end along with "25" written in vintage black marker. The barrel of the bat is signed in period black marker, "To Wayne, Best Wishes Tony Conigliaro" rating 9 out of 10. Tony Conigliaro was one of the more beloved Red Sox players during the 1960s era. In 1967, he suffered a severe injury to his retina which sidelined him until the 1969 season. During the 1969 season, he won the comeback player of the year award hitting 20 home runs. Tragically, he died in 1990 after suffering a stroke several years earlier at the young age of 45. The bat matches the Louisville Slugger factory records as dating to the 1969 comeback season specifically. Coupled with the 1969 dating, the fact that the bat is signed by Conigliaro makes it one of the finest of its type. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions (bat), MEARS Authentication (bat, graded A10), and JSA (autograph): EX-MT
