Lot Number: 206

Description: 1929 San Antonio Public Service baseball club team composite photograph with Dizzy Dean. Rare oversized 10”x13” composite image features players and personnel from the Texas semi-pro team. Among the cameo portraits is 19-year old J.H. “Dizzy” Dean. It was while pitching for this team in San Antonio that a manager in the Cardinals' farm system spotted him at a tryout camp. The image has been slightly trimmed at the edges, not reducing any of the image area. No significant wear is evident apart from a small spot of surface paper loss in the background area. Marked “Smith’s Hollywood Studio” in the lower right corner. A rare, if not unique Dean artifact. Includes letter of provenance from the Collins family: EX
