Description: 1946 Whitey Ford Journal American New York Sandlot Baseball Championship Outstanding Player Award. Fine figural baseball trophy presented to Whitey Ford at the youthful age of 18. Sponsored by the Journal American, the trophy was given to Ford as the outstanding player in the New York Sandlot Baseball Championship. The game was played at Yankee Stadium in 1946 and is notated as such on the brass placard affixed to the front. Wooden columnar trophy stands an impressive 23" tall with a large figural baseball player at the top and two smaller batting figurals at the base. Condition remains fairly clean overall with some typical light surface wear to the wooden base with the brass figurals exhibiting appropriate age patination. Incredibly early figural trophy marking one of the first significant baseball related awards to have been presented to future Hall of Fame pitcher Whitey Ford.
