Description: Historic Oct. 8, 1913 World Series Game #2 Final Out baseball. Official T.J. Lynch National League baseball was presented to New York Giants pitcher Ferd Schupp by Giants first baseman Fred Snodgrass. Game #2 of the 1913 World Series showcased a battle between pitching aces Christy Mathewson and Eddie Plank. "Matty" as he was called by teammates, was coming off of his next-to-last 20+ victory season in the majors having posted a 25-11 record. The Bucknell star was matched up against his former collegiate rival, Eddie Plank, from Gettysburg University. Both teams battled to a scoreless tie through nine complete innings behind the two star pitchers. Mathewson himself would break the deadlock, allowing an RBI single in the top of the 10th inning en route to a 3-0 victory for the Giants. The offered baseball descended within the family of former New York Giants pitcher Ferd Schupp. The ball exhibits evident game use and has been inscribed in period ink on all panels as follows, "Shibe Park Worlds Series Oct. 8, 1913 Athletics vs. Giants Batteries Plank & Schang/ Mathewson & Meyer-McLean/ 10 innings Score Ath-0 Giants-3". The reference to Meyer was an understandable error made in the period as he appeared in Game #1, with Art Wilson and McLean sharing the duties in Game #2. The other two panels of the ball list the hits, strikeouts, and walks as given up by each pitcher in addition to the following, "Given to Ferd Schupp by Snodgrass Given to Bernard Bonn by Ferd Schupp. This ball was caught by Snodgrass Last Out". Significant and historic final out baseball with impeccable primary source provenance from family of the original recipient. Includes LOA from JSA (regarding dating of the inscription as being of the period) and letter of provenance from the family: EX
