Description: 19th century baseball bat attributed to James "Deacon" White c.1886-1888. Fine quality hand turned baseball bat believed to have been used by James "Deacon" White while playing for the Detroit Wolverines from 1886-1888. The bat measures 33 1/2" long and weighs 35.8oz. with pronounced grain and a nicely tapered knob. "DETROIT" lettering is impressed into the bat near the center area retaining excellent original patination and surface. The bat itself exhibits excellent usage and has some checking to the barrel end with a small surface section missing from the back side of the barrel. White was a key member of the NL Champion Wolverines during the 1887 season. One of only a handful of documented 19th century game used baseball bats from a primary player source.
