Description: Scarce Urban Shocker single signed baseball c.1923. Shocker remains today one of the most un-appreciated pitchers in Major League history. During his relatively short 13 year career, he won almost 200 games with a 3.17 ERA and a .617 winning percentage. After playing in only three games during the 1928 season, he voluntarily retired due to failing health and died at the age of 38. Offered is one of the most sought after single signed baseballs of any Yankee player from the 1920s-30s. Clean, off white B.Johnson AL baseball is signed on the sweet spot by Shocker in black fountain pen rating 7 out of 10. "Browns 1923" is also written in Shocker's hand in black ink on the bottom panel. The ball dates to Shocker's fourth straight season with 20 or more victories, during which time his compiled record was 91-51. After trading Shocker in 1918, the Yankees atoned for their earlier mistake and re-signed him in 1924. He was one of the pitchers on the famed 1927 Yankees World Championship team and is among the most rare and desirable of all 1927 Yankee single signed baseballs. The ball also includes its original American League box. Includes LOA from James Spence Authentication: EX/MT-NM
