Lot Number: 535

Description: Significant Mickey Mantle 1960 World Series professional model baseball bat. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat issued to Mickey Mantle for use in the 1960 World Series measures 34 1/4" long and weighs 31.4oz. The bat exhibits strong evidence of use incl. ball marks, grain swelling, rack marks, and a section of the back of the barrel which was missing but has since been professionally repaired. Model "M110" is stamped on the knob end with "WORLD SERIES 1960 Mickey Mantle NEW YORK YANKEES" stamped on the barrel. Bat displays beautifully with excellent original patina and bold stampings. The 1960 World Series was bittersweet for Mickey Mantle. During the seven game series, Mantle torched the Pirates pitchers batting .400 with three home runs and 11 RBI's. However, the performance of Mantle and his teammates was not enough, as the Pirates' Bill Mazeroski connected during Game #7 for the most dramatic home run in World Series history giving the 1960 title to the Pirates. Although the 1960 World Series was MantleÆs most productive, he was quoted as stating that the 1960 World Series was the biggest disappointment of his career. The offered bat was obtained at the New York Yankees Spring Training Camp in 1961 along with several other Yankee game bats within this auction. Given that the players were typically presented with two bats for World Series play, it is interesting to wonder if Mantle clouted any of his three Series home runs with the offered bat. One of the most historic Mantle game bats to be offered for the first time publicly originating from a primary source. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions, Inc. and letter of provenance from the original recipient: EXYankees Spring Training Camp during the early 1960s along with several other Yankee game bats within this auction.
