Description: Rare photographic archive with relation to the original 1908 Kansas City Monarchs African American baseball team c.1900-08. Substantive estate collection of very scarce original images relating to the inception of the Kansas City Monarchs baseball team. Group of (13) photos includes 1908 team cabinet photograph from the original Monarchs team picturing the players in full uniform in three rows. Players include Wakefield, Wilkins, Pullam, McAdoo, and Robert "Frog" Lindsay. The image measures 7"x10" on its original mount. The photo itself has heavy toning and soiling along with a vertical tear. The mount has losses and soiling. Very rare image of one of the earliest organized African American baseball teams in Kansas City: PR-GD; "Lincoln High School" African American baseball team photograph c.1900. Mounted 5"x6" image picturing an early uniformed team; many players in the photo appear on the 1908 Monarchs team. Signed on the back by Monarchs player A. Pullam. Losses to the mount: VG; "Jenkins & Sons" African American baseball team cabinet photograph c.1904. Mounted 5"x7" image of a uniformed team likely sponsored by J.W. Jenkins of Jenkins Music Company, who was one of the early organizers of African American baseball teams in the Kansas City area. Corner chip to the mount: VG; "KU" baseball team cabinet photograph c.1890s. 7"x9" mounted image of an early uniformed team including A.Pullam in the top row as the only non white player on the team: VG; and three sets of mounted images c.1890s-1900s (nine total photos, three different images) depicting several scenes with African Americans incl. members of the baseball team posed outdoors.
