Lot Number: 305

Description: ***UPDATED LOT DESCRIPTION*** Important Forbes Field stadium arch c.1909. Incredible relic that was saved upon the demolition of Pittsburgh's Forbes Field. Part of the ornate exterior facade that surrounded the steel and concrete park, the terra cotta arch is formed by two sections of four pieces, each with heavily decorated floral panels flanking an interlocking "PAC" logo at both corners. "PAC" was the symbol for Pittsburgh Athletic Company. Each section measures 51” across the top and 37” along the side. Together, the two arches measure 102”x37” and weigh about 400 lbs. The arches were carefully broken at appropriate joints and fit together nicely if so desired. Overall condition is very fine with some obvious light chipping and a few areas of wear to the olive green paint. Incredibly, the arch retains a large portion of its original painted surface, which was one of the distinguishing traits of Forbes Field, which was decorated in various colors including green inset tiles and a red slate roof. The arch is being offered publicly for the first time since its removal from the demolition and is believed to be the only surviving intact example: EX
