Lot Number: 199

Description: Significant Joe DiMaggio rookie era professional model baseball bat c.1936-37. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat measures 36" long and weighs oz. Bat exhibits excellent use characteristics incl. ball marks, rack marks, and grain swelling. Rookie era facsimile style signature is stamped on the barrel end along with a very scarce "GENUINE SLUGGER" branding stamp. The bat itself was given to a young boy who had met New York Yankees player Snuffy Stirnweiss while delivering fish. Stirnweiss asked the boy who his favorite player was to which the boy replied, Joe DiMaggio. About two weeks later Stirnweiss presented the boy with the offered DiMaggio game bat to which he was told that Joe had hit a home run with the bat in the previous day's game. In addition to dating via labeling and markings the bat is identical to several exemplars found in a period photograph of Joe DiMaggio swinging a bat with the same branding stampings. The bat stampings are also clearly illustrated in a period Louisville Slugger advertisement. Joe DiMaggio game used bats of quality from any era with appropriate provenance are very seldom offered and highly touted by collectors. The offered bat is one of the finest rookie era DiMaggio game bats to enter the marketplace with note to its impeccable provenance and photo matched dating materials. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions, Inc. and a letter of provenance from the original recipient: EX-EX/MT
