Description: 1916 World Series game action photograph with Babe Ruth by George Grantham Bain. Significant original 4"x5" print taken during the second inning of the second game in the 1916 World Series. The photo shows Brooklyn pitcher Sherry Smith being thrown out at third base. The Boston Red Sox pitcher Babe Ruth is standing to the right of the play backing up the throw. It was on this date that Ruth began his incredible string of 29 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings pitched during World Series play. Ruth outdueled the Brooklyn pitcher, Smith, in a 14 inning battle that ended in a 2-1 win for the young pitcher. Stamped and dated on the back.
