Lot Number: 97

Description: Rare 25th Infantry African American baseball team photograph with scarce Bullet Rogan autograph on the reverse c.1919-20. Mounted 6"x8" image of the U.S. Army team from Camp Stephen D. Little in Nogales, AZ picturing the players posed in two rows with equipment. The front row includes the nucleus for the first Kansas City Monarchs team of 1920 incl. Rogan, D.Moore, L.Hawkins, and O.Johnson. The image remains very clean with the mount having a few period notations (possibly in Rogan's hand) and a few moisture spots. The reverse of the mount features an extraordinarily rare signature of Rogan signed, "Wilber Rogan" along with his street address in Edwards, MO. The signature rates 8 out of 10. Rogan died in 1967 and was not elected to the Hall of Fame until 1998. The signature of Wilber Rogan, to date, is among the most coveted of all baseball autographs and remains missing from almost all substantial autograph collections. Unique opportunity to acquire a Negro League related scarcity from the original family. Includes LOA from James Spence Authentication and letter of provenance from the Rogan family: Photo: EX, Signature: NM
