Lot Number: 41

Description: 1981 Ryne Sandberg Phila. Phillies rookie road jersey. Blue knit shirt with original "P" logo on front and #37. Back has "Sandberg" nameplate above #37, Wilson tag remains on the tail front along with "81 2" year/set strip tag. Inside collar is a chain stitched name on a strip tag of "Halicki". The jersey was most likely issued to journeyman pitcher Ed Halicki (released from the Angels in 1980) for Spring Training and then subsequently issued to Sandberg. In what certainly ranks among the worst trades in baseball history Ryne Sandberg and Larry Bowa were traded by the Phillies to the Cubs for shortstop Ivan DeJesus on January 27, 1982. The rest was history, with Sandberg becoming one of the greatest Cubs players and eventually earning a ticket to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Includes LOA from SCD Authentic: EX-MT
