Description: Scarce Honus Wagner cigar box c.1900. Incredibly rare Wagner endorsed lidded wooden cigar box featuring a lithographic interior lid label that pictures Honus Wagner in a Louisville Colonels uniform c.1897-1899. Exterior of the box has "Honus Wagner" brand stampings on side panels, front panel, and lid. Retains a portion of its its original tax stampings and paisley paper edge decoration. Marked underneath as having been distributed by the 47th District of Kentucky. The box overall remains intact and in generally nice condition with some chipping to the the interior label at the bottom portion (inside the box). Exterior of box has some toning in a few areas and some other general light wear. Dating of the box is based upon the usage of "Honus" rather then "Hans" first name, partial tax stamp dating information, and the label picturing Wagner wearing a Louisville uniform (1897-99). The offered box is one of only two known examples and ranks as the most coveted baseball related cigar box issue.
