Description: New York Ball Club cabinet photograph by Joseph Hall c. 1888-89. Image pictures an unlisted variation of the typical Hall New York cabinets in that they are posed in a studio setting in full uniform and listed as the “League Champions 1889” yet the photograph bears the typical 1888 copyright date by Hall. The Giants were the dominant team of the era with players incl. Buck Ewing, John Ward, Roger Connor, Tim Keefe, James “Orator Jim” O’Rourke, and Mickey Welch. Their record for 1888 was 84-47 while 1889 was 83-43. The image has some light surface wear incl. a tiny etched “x” on Jim Mutrie’s image, mount has typical age wear but curiously measures 1/16” short on the top border and is unevenly cut. This issue is known to have been miscut on occasion and to the knowledge of the consignor it was not done by a family member but nonetheless is the case: VG-EX (With note to border cut)
