Description: Typed letter of thanks to the Washington fans from Sam Rice. We felt it appropriate to offer this lot as the final lot in the Rice collection given its' content. The letter was written on July 19, 1932 on Sam Rice Day and published in the Washington Post on July 20th. Content includes, "It's hard to realize after so many years in a Washington uniform that I've played my last game as a National,..." and "...I'll always have nothing but the kindest thoughts and best wishes for the followers of the Washington club who have stuck with me through all the seasons...". This letter was exemplary of Rice's integrity and respect for the game even with the manner in which he was released from the club. Signed, "Sam" Rice in black ink: EX-EX/MT
