Description: Imperial size 1889 Boston Red Stockings team photograph. Large format 13"x17" matted albumen photograph picturing the 1889 Red Stockings posed on the field in full uniform including Kelly, Clarkson, Brouthers, and Radbourn. Marked "Copyright '89" at bottom left corner, image has been mounted on archival board as it was once on a mount that had deteriorated. Photo retains excellent contrast and clarity with a restored tear that ran from top right edge into the top row of players visible upon close inspection. Otherwise fairly clean with a few minor surface scratches that have been touched up. The 1889 Boston team was very formidable losing the pennant to New York on the last day of the season. 19th century professional images of this quality have become very difficult to obtain with the majority of known examples residing in private collections or institutions: EX (With note to tear restoration)
