Description: Significant Rogers Hornsby rookie era professional model baseball bat c.1916-17. L.Slugger double dash-dot-dash model bat measuring 34 1/2" long and weighing 38.5oz . Bat retains a superb original surface with very evident game usage wear incl. handle crack, small chip on the knob, and repaired deadwood area on back w/small finish nails. Block letter "HORNSBY" stampings on barrel end alongside of the remains from the original shipping label. Bat is side written with the following lettering partially visible, "From Tyler, Tut?.Co Ath. As? 40OZ-?,PA 5-27-22". The offered bat has resided in the collection of a longtime hobbyist and is being offered for the first time publicly. Rogers Hornsby is generally considered the greatest right handed hitter in baseball history. He batted over .300 in (14) full seasons, won the batting title from 1920-25 consecutively, hit for .400 three times in his career, and finished with career totals of 2930 hits, 1584 RBI's, .358 lifetime average.
