Lot Number: 1023

Description: Significant 1961 Mickey Mantle New York Yankees contract. Mantle's personal copy of this historic contract was issued for $70,000.00 and has been signed by Mantle (with middle initial), Yankees executive R.Howell, and League President Joe Cronin in bold blue ink. Dated Feb. 7, 1961 it would be difficult to predict the coming events that the 1961 season would hold for Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. The two would battle for the home run crown through most of the 1961 season and eventually sought to approach the record of 60 home runs set by babe Ruth. Mantle would slightly fade at the end of the season due mostly to injury and Maris would go on to set the new benchmark at 61. Mantle's statistics for 1961 are borderline fiction with 54 HR's, 132 runs scored, 128 RBI's, .317 B.Average, 122 walks, and a slugging percentage of .687. Regarded as the most desirable Mantle contract and interestingly one of only three that he signed with his middle initial. Includes LOA from the Mantle family and LOA from PSA/DNA J.Spence-S.Grad: NM

Estimated Price: ($50,000.00-$75,000.00)
