Description: Rare "Topps Chewing Gum" trade sign c.1940's. Wonderful painted wooden trade sign which once hung at the Topps Chewing Gum company factory in Brooklyn, New York. The Shorin brothers had founded the company in 1938 and began selling "Topps Gum" chewing gum. In the 1940's Topps evolved into Bazooka bubble gum with small comics wrapped around the gum. It was around 1950 when the company revolutionized the industry as they began to insert trading cards with their gum products and the rest is history. Sign is of a soft wood having its' original black paint with gilt lettering and measures 7 3/4"x45". Has a sliver missing from top left corner area, chip at bottom right corner, and some general age wear including light paint flaking while retaining a superb original surface.
