Lot Number: 680

Description: Phenomenal Babe Ruth Career-Era single signature baseball. It should not be necessary to state the significance of Babe Ruth in twentieth-century American sports and popular culture and the iconic stature of a Babe Ruth single-signed baseball. As such, we may simply state that the offered Babe Ruth autographed baseball is among the elite few to be rated as the finest in our hobby. Ball originated from a New England area estate and is being offered publicly for the first time, a light clear coating has preserved the signature in the same condition as on the day it was signed. It has, however, one additional quality that the majority of the other exemplars in its' class lackùit was signed during RuthÆs playing career whereas most others were signed in the 1940's. Not only that, from the ball (an E. S. Barnard Official American League ball with blue and red stitching used only from 1928 to 1931) and the style of the signature we can determine that the offered ball was signed around the peak of RuthÆs career in the late 1920's. Sophisticated collectors know the extreme relative rarity of top condition single-signed Ruth balls signed during his playing career; the majority of the few extant examples were signed after he retired from baseball. This one is simply one of the best, with a jet black fountain pen signature rating 9/10 out of 10 perfectly centered on the sweet spot, where it belongs. Breathtaking. Includes LOA from PSA/DNA J. Spence-S.Grad: Ball: EX-EX/MT, Signature: NM-MT
