Description: Note: The majority of the following single signed baseballs (Lots 631 to 700) originated from the collections of Harry Evans and James Armstrong. The significance of the group lies not only in the quality and rarity of the players but in the quantity offered. During the 1940-60's when most of these autographs were obtained it was almost unprecedented to "collect" single signature baseballs. The rarity of some of the examples present is such that they are the only known exemplars in many cases. For accuracy, both Evans and Armstrong were known to have marked balls with "Sign Here" tags or printed the player's name on side panel for identification. In several cases these period identifications were subsequently removed leaving small areas of toning on a ball or vestiges of pen impressions. We mention this fact for the purpose of accuracy only and in the case of any major single signed balls we have noted any such possible occurrence, in the case of Lot 700 the aforementioned statement is a general and random occurrence. The quality and quantity of this group is not likely to again be seen.
