Interesting and substantive grouping of memorabilia relating to Hank Gowdy who played for (17) years in the Major Leagues with several teams including the New York Giants. Included in the lots are the following: Scrapbook of various period Gowdy related photographs, WWI discharge orders, life insurance booklet, and several membership cards, and auto. photo of Gowdy in Reds uniform: Range VG-NM; Schlitz Beer porcelain mug with Gowdy's name painted at bottom: EX; Gowdy's French Briar pipe (broken at mouthpiece) in orig. case: GD; Pair of Gowdy's eyeglasses (missing side pieces): VG-EX; and his WWI Army uniform which includes jacket, shirt, pants, 42nd Division/166th Infantry armband, belt, and hat: EX. Very significant grouping of items as Gowdy was the first Major League baseball player to enlist in the Army for World War I. Includes letter of provenance from Joel Platt stating that items were obtained from the Gowdy family.
