Description: Significant Harry Chadwick Eldridge autograph album c.1880-90. Easily the most historically important group of baseball autographs that we have handled the offered book is a handmade hardbound album consisting of signatures from the greatest names in 19th century baseball. Album was the property of Henry Chadwick's grandson Harry and is so noted in several places throughout the book along with some personalizations from players. Autographs included are as follows: Christmas card signed, "Grandpa Chadwick" (Henry), 3"x5" page signed with personal notation from Henry Chadwick 1889, A.G. Spalding auto. 3"x5" page, A.C. Anson auto. 3"x5" page, Harry Wright auto. 3"x5" page, Roger Connor auto. 3"x5" page, George Wright auto. 3"x5" page, incredibly scarce Mike Kelly (M.J. Kelly) auto. 3"x5" page, and Henry Chadwick inscribed birthday card to Harry signed "Grandpa". The breakdown value of this impressive assemblage is not easily calculated given the unimproveable provenance along with the rarity and import of player signatures. Remainder of pages in the book have engravings and rotogravures of the players from the era, all signatures rate at least 7 or better out of 10.
