Description: 1980 Charlotte O's Police Orange Border Cal Ripken Jr (PSA 4 VG-EX). Exceedingly rare Minor League Rookie card of Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. was part of a regional issue distributed by the Charlotte North Carolina Police Department. Ripken closed out the final (11) games of the 1979 season with the O's and had a breakout year with the club in 1980 hitting .276 with (25) home runs. He would advance to Triple A ball in 1981 and then became a regular with Baltimore at the Major League level in 1982. The orange bordered Charlotte O's card is considered the rarest of all Ripken Rookie cards and PSA's population report notes a total of only (30) which they have authenticated and encapsulated. The offered example (graded VG-EX 4) has a touch to each corner and centering which favors the top edge: PSA VG-EX 4
