Lot Number: 94

Description: Rare Nile Kinnick autograph clipped from his Naval Aviators Flight Log with direct family provenance - 1939 Heisman Trophy winner (PSA/DNA 9 MINT). Exceedingly rare "N.C. Kinnick" fountain pen signature appears on a small slip of paper which was removed from Kinnick's personal flight log. It was sent by his father, Nile Kinnick Sr., in response to an autograph request. An included letter from Kinnick Sr. reads in part, "I am enclosing for your collection...a clip from Nile Kinnick's Aviators Flight Log Book. This Log Book was returned with Nile's effects...At the end of each month the total of the flights for that month had to be signed by the flyer and certified by his instructor..." Kinnick won the 1939 Heisman Trophy while playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes and turned down offers from several professional football teams to pursue further education. He ultimately enlisted in the Navy to serve his country just before the attacks on Pearl Harbor and lost his life at age (24) when his plane began leaking oil during a training flight. He remains a revered figure and the University of Iowa football team plays in Kinnick Stadium to this day. The piece has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA with the autograph graded "Mint 9." Includes full LOA from JSA, (2) letters from Kinnick's father, an additional portion of the flight log sheet from which the autograph was removed, and a copy of Kinnick's Naval Aviator ID card: PSA Mint 9 graded autograph
